'Queeny Red Lime' Zinnia elegans is an exotic and unusual variety with red flowers flecked with lime. I love having a single stem of this in a vase. There is hardly a vegetable garden in France where you will not find zinnias grown for cutting. They thrive in hot, dry, Mediterranean summers and require good drainage and sunny open positions, but they also survive our colder, wetter summers well. If you have any doubts, give them one or two doses of Copper Mixture, and they will thrive.

Care Tips: Water the plants once a week and stake them individually. Ensure good air circulation around the plants and tidy up any dead or dying leaves to avoid botrytis. Picking or deadheading the flowers is necessary to prolong blooming and encourage branching.

Flowering Period: July - first frosts, 12-14 weeks from sowing.

Type: Half-Hardy Annual

Height: 90cm (36in)

Spread: 30cm (12in)

Cultivation: Zinnias are best sown April-May under cover in modules or gutters to avoid root disturbance. Harden off the seedlings before planting them out after the frosts. Pinch out the tips as you plant. Direct sow in late May, as zinnias hate cold nights.
