Seed Needs: A Brand Dedicated to Positive Change
At just 15 years old, I founded Seed Needs with the aim of bringing my family closer, retiring my father, employing friends, and, most importantly, helping people. Over the past decade, we've shipped millions of seed packets to happy customers across the US, offering a wide selection of flowers, herbs, vegetables, vines, wildflower blends, and seed packet collections.
With the success of our brand, we've been able to grow our sponsorships from a single child in 2010 to over 100 children worldwide each month. We're honored to continually donate to organizations like St. Jude Children's Hospital and the ASPCA, thanks to the support of our customers.
Our beautifully illustrated seed packets provide the common and scientific names, seed quantity, and growing specifications. On the reverse side, you'll find complete instructions for sowing, growing conditions, and germination. Plus, a convenient QR code for easy reordering.
What sets our products apart? We absolutely love art, and our packaging is as visually stunning as the flowers, herbs, and vegetables you'll grow. And you can rest assured that all our seeds are non-GMO, untreated, and stored in a temperature-controlled, moisture-free facility - always fresh and intended for the current and following growing seasons.
One of our most popular offerings is the Asclepias incarnata, or Pink Swamp Milkweed. This perennial plant grows 36 to 60 inches tall and produces clusters of beautiful pink flowers. Swamp Milkweed is a crucial host plant for the endangered Monarch butterfly, providing both food and shelter for these beloved creatures.
To ensure successful germination, Asclepias seeds require a process of stratification. Simply place the seed packet in the fridge for 3 to 6 weeks before sowing. Then, sow the seeds indoors, 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, at a depth of 1/16 inch. Transplant or direct sow outdoors once the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.
Swamp Milkweed thrives in full sun with well-drained, organic-rich soil and temperatures between 70°F and 85°F. Water daily until germination, which can take 14 to 40 days. The mature plants will reach a height of 36 to 60 inches and should be spaced 12 to 18 inches apart.
By growing Asclepias and other milkweed varieties, you can help support the dwindling Monarch butterfly population, which has declined by nearly 96% in recent decades. Together, we can all play a part in increasing the numbers of these beloved, iconic insects.
Whether you're an experienced gardener or just starting out, Seed Needs is committed to providing you with the highest-quality, non-GMO seeds, beautiful packaging, and the satisfaction of knowing your purchases make a positive impact. Thank you for your support!
