Swamp Milkweed Spotlight This Milkweed seed duo contains two popular varieties: White Swamp Milkweed and Pink Swamp Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata). The plants grow to a mature height of 36 to 60 inches, producing gorgeous pink and white flowers.

Swamp Milkweed is a crucial host plant for the Monarch butterfly, as the caterpillars feed on its large, tender leaves. Adult Monarchs, as well as many other butterflies, are drawn to the plant's rich nectar source. Swamp Milkweed can be grown alongside other Milkweed varieties, such as Common Milkweed, Showy Milkweed, and Butterfly Milkweed.

Sowing and Growing Asclepias seeds require a process of stratification for successful germination. Place the seed packet in the fridge for 3 to 6 weeks before sowing. The seeds are best sown indoors, 6 to 8 weeks before the last frost, at a shallow depth of 1/16 inch, as they require light to germinate. Transplant or direct sow outdoors when the weather is warm and all danger of frost has passed.

Asclepias plants thrive in full sun with temperatures between 70°F and 85°F. The soil should be rich in organic matter and well-drained. Water daily until germination occurs, which can take 14 to 40 days. The mature plants will reach a height of 36 to 60 inches and should be spaced 12 to 18 inches apart.

Swamp Milkweed is a crucial food source for the Monarch butterfly and will also attract a variety of other beneficial insects, such as honey bees, ladybugs, butterflies, and bumblebees.
